Enrollment Verification
The 黑社区 participates in the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC). Several times per semester, St. Thomas submits a report of students’ enrollment status to the NSC which, in turn, supplies verification of enrollment to lending agencies.
Deferment requests and enrollment verifications cannot be completed prior to the start of the term but can be held for completion upon the first day of the term. If a student has registered late or has had an exception processed to the term registration, this information may not be reported until the submission of the next report to the Clearinghouse.
All current students should use the NSC website to print off enrollment verification letters. Students may also use the NSC’s self-service website to perform any of the following functions, free of charge:
- View his/her enrollment information on file with the Clearinghouse.
- View the student loan deferment notifications that the Clearinghouse has provided to his/her loan holders.
- View the proof of enrollment that the Clearinghouse has provided on his/her behalf.
- Obtain an enrollment certificate to print and mail to a health insurer or other company that requests a proof of enrollment.
- View specific information about his/her student loans.

Loan Deferment Requests
If your lender needs a deferment form processed, bring it in, mail it, or fax it to the Registrar’s Office. All loan deferment request forms are sent to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) for processing. Once the NSC receives the request, lenders are notified of enrollment and the deferment is put into effect as of the start of the semester.
If you have any questions about the deferment process, please contact your lender. The Registrar's Office is only responsible for reporting your enrollment status, not determining your eligibility for deferment.
The NSC asks that if a student receives a collection letter from a servicer, the student does the following:
- Call the lending agency to see if a deferment form was received between the time the NSC supplied the information and the lending agency sent the collection letter.
- If, after calling the servicer, it still appears that the deferment has not been processed, the student may call the NSC at (703) 742-7791 and ask for a Student Service Representative. The representative will verify the date on which the deferment form was received by the NSC, the date the deferment was certified and mailed, the enrollment status that was certified, and where the forms were sent.
- If an emergency exists - for example, the student is 150 days delinquent and being threatened with default - the NSC will intervene on the student's behalf by faxing another enrollment certification to the servicer. Further, it will work with the servicer to ensure that the form is processed on a high-priority basis.
If a student has more than one loan holder, a separate form is required for each lender. Each deferment form should include:
- Student’s full name
- Student’s Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Name of student’s loan holder or servicer address on the second page of the deferment form
- Student’s signature
